As an individual and as a society we continue to seek a panacea which is a solution or remedy for all difficulties or diseases. Some people try to find a panacea for all their difficulties in life through alcohol or drugs. They are sadly mistaken. There have been several legislations which was supposed to be a panacea for all the corporate frauds, banking systems, and corruption in the political systems. Each one of them failed given the greed of individuals. None of the discoveries in medicine has proven to be a panacea against a single disease. Does a panacea for individual problems or the ills of society or a political system or the weather systems or relationships even exist? Is there a panacea for anything? Should there be a panacea for anything? I do not think so. A panacea goes against the truths of impermanence, prudence, or felicity. These are aspirational goals but cannot be achieved in totality. If we achieve a panacea for all the difficulties of life, there would be no unpredictability, sense of loss or gain, happiness or sadness, laughter or tears, and perhaps no need for emotions either. That sounds to me like the stillness of death and not feeling alive. There is perhaps a panacea for everything after all. It is the acceptance of the good and the bad, kindness and the brutality of us humans, and the yin and yang of all aspects of life…..
