A delusion is a fixed belief, that is not amenable to change, in light of conflicting evidence. It is considered to be a pathological mental state. Science has proven time and again that happiness does not increase after a certain amount of income annually is realized. Most of us continue to try to acquire increasing amounts of wealth, in the pursuit of happiness, when there is evidence that is not true. Investing in relationships pays a lot more dividends. However we are busy pursuing a lot of things and don’t have time for relationships. Exercise has immense amounts of physical and mental benefits. Collectively we spend more money on exercise equipment and gym memberships than time devoted to exercising and the obesity epidemic is killing us. I pull my stomach in when I am looking at myself in the mirror. Isn’t that delusional? If we live in a unsustainable fashion, how can our own and our children’s future be sustained? We continue to do so and some of us even deny the obvious. When we are living through a pandemic, we need to change our habits and lifestyle. We want the pandemic to go away without taking the measures which will make it go away. Social media consumption is harmful and wasteful but our consumption is incrementally increasing. Relationships can be long lasting but celebrations are fleeting. However we continue to prepare and look forward to celebrations rather than celebrate relationships themselves. Are we all delusional? Is that what is keeping us from being wise and reasonable? Maybe we choose to live delusional lives so that we can disguise our own truth to our own selves……
